This journal is intended to the fanfic writer and OC designer and will expose only my modest opinion on the subject of "magic" in the world of Sonic.
Let's be honest here, 70% of the OC and fanfic I saw use and abuse of the concept of "magic" which is pretty sad.
Why do I think magic is bad thing in Sonic?
Because, it might surprise you, but Magic has never been present in the game of the main series, yes yes !
I already see some of you arguing about the Chaos Emeralds and some other deity entity like Chaos and Solaris.
And I will ask you, does the Force in Star Wars is magic? Do you see what I mean?
The Force is showed in Star Wars as a natural energy, not as a supernatural thing, it might be see like this for an ordinary beeing which simply doesn't understant the Force, but for a Jedi, the Force is natural, just like the energy of gravity is.
Now let's see how work the Chaos energy in the world of Sonic for exemple.
We know that Chaos energy can be harvested and stored into machine, Eggman already did it, the G.U.N. did it as well (the Chaos Drive), meaning that Chaos energy is perfectly
quantifiable and are produced naturaly by the Chaos Emerald, just like the qwartz, once submited to an electrical field (piezoelectric effect), can emit the waves used by our mobile phone and it is not a supernatural energy.
In fact, the Chaos Emeralds has never been showed as something supernatural in the world of Sonic, their existence is known since ancient times and their energy source perfectly mastered, both on the technological level, and by the will (like the force).
As for the Master Emerald, which is a conscious being, her fonction and purpose make it similar to a God, so the question that you have to ask to yourself is (if you are a believer) to know if God is a natural beeing or not.
This can be an interesting question on the philosophical level btw, if the creation is natural, does that mean that the creator is also a natural beeing ?
Anyway back to purpose, the concept of what is "magic" in most of the case and others fictional universe, is something about an energy that you can't understand, quantify and control by artificial means, which is absolutely not the case in the word of Sonic (in which I remind you, even the power of a God like Solaris can be controled by machine).
But there is a correct term for the case of the world of Sonic, "technomancy".
The definition of "technomancy" differs between fiction works, in some fiction universe, it's the use of magic to control the technology, in some other it's the opposite, and in some others it's the use of technology to control a mystical but natural energy, I take an exemple, the biotic implant in Mass Effect to allow its user to control the "eezo" (wich is a natural element related to dark energy in Mass Effect) and so giving to the user PK power.
So in others words, for me the use of magic for an OC or a Sonic fanfic is a severe misunderstanding of how work the world of Sonic (for the game canon, I'm not talking about the comics).

SunChild Project - The Humans Case
Little extra journal entry for today but I guess it is time to clear the thing up and maybe on some of the things you might or not expect from this project. If you followed this project since a while, the first thing I'm gonna state will be obvious, but a little reminder will do no harm. SunChild is not at all a comedy, never was, and never will be, don't expect either the personification that the Sonic cast have since the "2010 era" SunChild plotline is directly linked to Sonic 06 event (a part of the series taking place right before 06 in the Sol Zone, then the rest right after it from Blaze perspective), therefore the cast will be in line with how they were depicted during that time. In overall, SunChild narrative intention is to deliver an action drama story, with each of the main cast having there own journey, there own challenge to overcome, and there own lesson to learn, with some of the cast having some dramaticaly opposed point of view on how the things should be done, and

YES, I'm still working on the SunChild project, and yes I'm finally getting closer of the end of the asset production work, asset production that I hope to have completely finished for December. SunChild Project - Dev Diary UE4
As promised, it's time for a rather big dev diary regarding the tech stuff produced so far for the SunChild series.
The first point is about fur, a real physical fur was always something that I wanted to try on Sonic cast character (and something which was not possible in SFM), I've tried several technic, the "shell" way which is shader based, it was looking good on some character (but not everyone) and this way has an huge drawbavk, the lack of native support for physicaly based animation.
So I've looked to the side of Nvidia and their HarWorks plugin, full succes, it's what I wanted, easy to setup, easy to edit on the fly, physical based a

I have been thinking a LOT about this and how Chaos energy works in the Sonic franchise for a large part so that I know what the Master Emerald's Role is for me and my sister's comic.
I treat Chaos emeralds and their power (chaos energy) very much like the force.
Chaos power manifests itself in rare physical materials, or living creatures with and appropriate signature in some 4th dimension. Sonic is probably the most powerful mobian in his time and because of this, the world wonders at him, and I've even toyed with the thought of mobian governments not trusting him and wanting to capture him for study.
It's been really fun. I love how you referenced the force from Star Wars. The force and how it works is a great example. I've been watching so many Star Wars videos.
The Master Emerald and the chaos emeralds I thought could harness chaos energy that was dormant within a nearby area, or they could even pull from chaos energy currents that reflected the feelings of thousands of individuals across the planet.
